The Stork Fund supports programs such as researching best practices in neonatal intensive care.
With more than 8,000 babies born here each year, BWH holds a special place in the hearts of many families grateful for the care and compassion they receive as they welcome a tiny loved one into the world.
To help support clinical care, research and education related to healthy moms, pregnancies and babies, BWH has launched the Stork Fund, a new fund-raising effort that directs 100 percent of its proceeds to obstetrics, maternal/fetal medicine, gynecology, fertility, the NICU and other related areas.
“Our patients consistently ask us for a way they can express their gratitude, for the outstanding care they recieve” said Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, executive director of Nursing in the Connors Center for Women and Newborns. "Making a donation to the Stork Fund is one way they can acknowledge the care they received from our team, and, at the same time, help ensure that other patients have the same access to BWH's high standard of care."
One of those mothers grateful for her experience is BWH President Betsy Nabel, MD, who delivered her first child, Christopher, at BWH 23 years ago. “The Brigham is one of the best hospitals in the world for women’s health and newborn care, and our staff are constantly making advances to improve even further the care we provide at this special time in families’ lives,” she said.
The Stork Fund builds upon 175 years of maternal-fetal care at BWH, and new initiatives, programs and research led by staff to transform and improve care for all patients, including a major initiative to decrease disparities.
“The innovations and programs we develop and the work we do at BWH have an impact on hospitals and new moms across the country and beyond,” said Marikim Bunnell, MD, of OB/GYN. “We are excited about the Stork Fund, which will enable us to continue to focus on delivering high quality care to moms and babies and improve this care through research and education.”
The Web site, www.StorkFund.org, provides information for new moms and families and pre-natal moms about pregnancy, labor and delivery and more. The site also features a way for moms who had babies at the Brigham to share their own stories. Be sure to visit the online store, where gifts including rattles, bags, bibs and hats are available for purchase, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the fund.
“Our patients are always looking for ways to stay connected, and the Stork Fund is the perfect opportunity for them to express thanks and appreciation to their caregivers,” said Jim Asp, vice president and Chief Development Officer.
The Stork Fund will officially kick off with a “My Baby and Me” event on Saturday, May 1, at the Prudential Center. The event, open to moms, dads and children under 5, features Isis Parenting yoga classes for parents and kids and lunch and snacks provided by Au Bon Pain.
